Yesterday I went to audit a trial in the State Court in Tennesse.
I was amazed to see that the juries were all selected from common people randomly who are workers, retailers, scientists, and even college students. There are altogether 35 potential juries among whom would be selected 12 as the final jury members. No matter black or white, young or old, men or women, everyone has a chance to go to the court and practise law.
During the trial, potential juries were asked questions by the judge and attorneys who have the right to excuse any of them by their answers. The juries also have the right to question the judge or attorneys if they doubt about certain rules in court.
The case I audited was an auto accident. The issue was that the woman hit by a car asked for compensation from the insurrance company. But she got another accident in the same year. So the insurrance company thought her injuries were from her last accident not this one.
I was so surprised to see that people who got selected were bold to question the judge or pointed out their untrust of the state laws. |
